5 Trim and Moulding Trends for 2025
Trim and Moulding Trends: Market Outlook Shows Growth Opportunities for Pros
Though the housing market is still in a period of volatility and uncertainty, manufacturers are seeing a strong future for the trim market, especially if interest rates stay flat or come down.
“The trim and moulding segment is positioned for steady growth, aligning with the overall home remodeling market,” said Steve Booz, vice president of marketing for Westlake Royal Building Products™. “While the past year saw a slight dip in spending, projections show an uptick in home improvement activity through the middle of 2025, setting the stage for growth in this category.”
Trim offers homeowners the option to refresh or upgrade the look and feel of their interiors and exteriors when they’re unable to sell due to market conditions. Once they do decide to make a move, they could see a return on investment from those aesthetic upgrades.

Darker Trim Colors Drive Demand in Exterior Projects
One trim trend that’s rising in popularity is the preference for dark colors. “Homeowners and homebuyers are continuing to look for ways to break away from uniform, cookie-cutter houses, opting for eye-catching aesthetics that enhance curb appeal and create a distinctive look,” Booz said. “When it comes to the home’s exterior, trim plays a crucial role in defining a home’s character. By experimenting with a variety of styles, colors and finishes of trim, homeowners can achieve a customized, visually striking exterior that complements the home’s architectural style.”
While whites, creams and other neutrals still remain a popular choice, Booz said, contrasting trim like black framing around windows can create a dramatic effect. “Other deep hues like charcoal, navy blue, forest green and rich brown are becoming more popular because they pair beautifully with trending exteriors like white board-and-batten or light stone facades.”

Made with poly-ash, TruExterior® Siding & Trim, shown here, can be painted dark colors, even black, so it’s able to respond to the latest trim color trends.
Trim and mouldings can also bridge different materials in popular multi-textured facades. “Trim products that complement a range of siding and roofing materials, such as vinyl and PVC trim, are gaining traction for this reason,” the magazine noted.
Traditional Trim and Moulding Trends Make a Comeback
Wider trim profiles with clean, simple lines also are growing in popularity, LBM Journal said, including using thicker trim to accentuate key areas.
Classic beadboard is showing up again, along with other timeless panel styles like shiplap and wainscoting, reflecting broader demand for customizable, premium finishes.
Why Low-Maintenance Trim Is Leading Contractor Preferences
LBM Journal noted that demand for non-wood trim continues to be strong: There has been a shift from wood to more durable, low-maintenance materials. Performance is front and center, especially in light of severe weather events. Products that are both resilient and low maintenance should remain popular.

Helping Clients Choose the Right Trim: What Pros Should Prioritize
Finally, customer support remains a key opportunity for both pros and dealers: With the sheer number of trim options available, it’s essential to be a resource to homeowners. Listen to customers and understand their challenges, manufacturers say. For example, if labor is a challenge, easy-to-install products like column wraps can provide a beautiful finish in less time.
This also includes recognizing opportunities to sell and upsell, Booz said. “Trim and moulding are the ideal finishing touch for a room and for the exterior, but may not always be top of mind with buyers. Ensure trim is part of the product selection conversation and offer good-better-best solutions to help achieve the look they’re seeking within their budget.”
